Some first half performances isn’t about wins or losses; it’s about showing what you can do in the ring that counts. And Cheerleader Melissa has proven time and time again that she can still have a good first half, but also break loose for a successful second half of the year. More often than not, Melissa always uses bulletin board material to prove herself to be the best, and the 2013 PWI Female 50 winner and the inaugural winner of The Barbwire Blog’s Independent Women’s Wrestler of the Year Award is a surefire lock to remain in the top ten of PWI’s Female 50 this year as well as a potential back to back Independent Women’s Wrestler of the Year Award winner and a top 10 lock on the BWB 50 on the Barbwire Blog this year.
To start the first half, Melissa had three belts to her credit; the SHIMMER Championship, the River City Wrestling Angels Championship, and the Pro Wrestling Revolution Women’s Championship. But she lost the PWR Women’s Championship to Christina Von Eerie in a ripple threat match in February, and she lost the RCW Angels Championship to Joey Spector but gained the RCW Phoenix Championship in the process in March. Along the way Melissa has some victories along the way like Joey Ryan, Reby Sky, Terra Callaway and Serena Deeb; but meaningless losses at the hands of Katrina Waters, Io Shirai and the cheating tactics of Hudson Envy (Which Melissa personally retaliated with her Air Raid Crash at an AWS show in late May).
In SHIMMER, Melissa started the year as champion and proving why she’s a fighting champion by utilizing aggressiveness in her matches. As of this writing, she is well on her way to make the 500 days mark as champion, which will come on September. As the champion she turned back the challenges of LuFisto, Yumi Okha and Mia Yim; but with her alliance with Mercedes Martinez does has some flaws in the system as they suffered defeats from LuFisto & Kana as well as the Global Green Gangsters (Tomoka Nakagawa & Kellie Skater). And the partnership even got worse when Mercedes interfered in Melissa’s match against Courtney Rush and now with Rush and LuFisto added into the mix, Melissa and Mercedes will be on opposite sides for the first time since last year when they face off next month.
Melissa also ventured into the world of Mixed Martial Arts when she became a part of the Lingerie Fighting Championship at l earlier this month when she faced off against Allysin Kay at one of their events. Melissa is experimenting herself as a two-sport athlete like so many before her like Bronko Nagurski, Wahoo McDaniel and Brock Lesnar. Look for her to solidify herself into one of the best athletes in wrestling in the years to come.
The second half will see Melissa gear up for the STARDOM Five Star Grand Prix in August as well as regaining some ground as one of the best women’s wrestlers of this decade. It is clear that most people have written Melissa of the face of the earth, but even Hurricane Melissa comes through, nobody will ever doubt her again.
