Indy Power Rankings for the Week of April 27th, 2015

image

#1 Drew Galloway (@GallowaySpeaks)-Galloway does it again! For the third time in 2015 he has reached pinnacle of the Indy Power Rankings Top 10. Perhaps even more importantly than his 3rd #1 ranking this year, he added yet another title to his collection when he won the SWA Scottish Heavyweight Title from Doug Williams on 4/24. He then defeated Mark Coffey on 4/25 to retain the title and then defeated Tommy End at ICW on 4/26 to retain the ICW Title. With a 3-0 record and a mantle that includes SIX titles right now, Galloway was the clear cut #1 this week despite HEAVY competition from a lot of challengers throughout the Top 10 and beyond.

#2 Rhett Giddins (@bmop_rhett)-After a SUPERB 2014, Rhett Giddins fell off a little bit in the end and then had been all but absent from the Indy Power Rankings in 2015. That lack of rankings all changed this week after he cruised to an amazing weekend in Florida. The I Believe in Wrestling Florida Heavyweight Champion teamed with Santana Garrett & Chasyn Rance on 4/25 at I Believe in Wrestling to beat Ashley Mayberry, Eric Alvarado & Tyranus, then defeated Tyranus to retain the title, then defeated Jody Kristofferson to retain the title again, then teamed with Santana Garrett & Lince Dorado to beat Aaron Epic, Josh Hess & Ace Andrews, and then defeated Chico Adams to retain the title to go 5-0 for the week. With 8 straight victories to his credit, you may start seeing him pop up in the Top 10 more and more as the year rolls on.

#3 Santana Garrett (@BrittanyTNA)-Another fantastic weekend gets the SHINE, NWA Women’s, and Ring Warriors Battling Bombshell Champion another very h igh ranking in the Indy Power Rankings Top 10. She has been UNSTOPPABLE as of late. Over the weekend she teamed with Chasyn Rance & Rhett Giddins at I Believe in Wrestling on 4/25 to beat Ashley Mayberry, Eric Alvarado & Tyranus, then teamed with Chasyn Rance, Josh Park & A.F. Bernie to beat Chico Adams, Wayne VanDyke, Eric Alvarado & Slade Porter, then defeated Crazy Mary Dobson to retain the NWA and Shine titles, and then teamed with Lince Dorado & Rhett Giddins to beat Aaron Epic, Josh Hess & Ace Andrews to go 4-0 for the week. With over 20 straight victories, no woman can lay claim to the top female in the United States for 2015 like she can and with her continuing to pile up high rankings, it’s possible she could be the top talent in the United States for 2015…PERIOD.

#4 Jason Kincaid (@GiftKincaid)-After being #23 in the IPR 100 for 2014, the NWA Southeastern Heavyweight Champion had a tall task ahead of him going into 2015 to try to top 2014. So far he has won the ECWA Super 8 Tournament and now he grabs a #4 ranking in the Top 10. He teamed with Chase Owens at CWE on 4/22 to defeat Shane Sabre & Carter Mason, then teamed with Chase Owens on 4/23 to beat The Cannon Cartel, then beat Chase Owens on 4/24, and then defeated Christopher Daniels & Chase Owens in a three-way dance at CWE on 4/25 to go 4-0 for the week. He truly is one of the most underrated talents in the world right now, but he’s making sure everyone is taking notice this year.

#5 Tyson Moore-A 5-0 weekend earns this talent his very first ranking this week. He defeated Brett Morgan at CWE on 4/22 then defeated Travis Cole on 4/23, then beat Antonio Scorpio on 4/24, then beat Christopher Daniels the same night, and then defeated Tyler Colton on 4/25 to win the Elite 8 tournament. That is an UNCANNY weekend for anyone on the indies and he should be proud, but even more important, with his first ranking comes a better shot at future rankings. On a weekend where talent was going 5-0, 4-0, and 3-0 left and right, he made sure he got his name right in the middle of the pack.

#6 Chasyn Rance (@ChasynRance)-It’s been a while since the SCW Florida Cruiserweight Champion was in the Top 10 but he returned with a vengeance this week as he teamed with Santana Garrett & Rhett Giddins at I Believe in Wrestling on 4/25 to beat Ashley Mayberry, Eric Alvarado & Tyranus, then teamed with Santana Garrett, Josh Park & A.F. Bernie to beat Chico Adams, Wayne VanDyke, Eric Alvarado & Slade Porter, then teamed with Lince Dorado & Mini Lince to beat Maxwell Chicago, Wayne VanDyke & Josh Hess, and then wrapped up the weekend when he beat Ace Andrews to go 4-0 for the week. Impressive stuff for one of the top talents in all of Florida (a state that has a LOT of representation this week).

#7 Akira Tozawa (@TozawaAkira)-The man who has DOMINATED the Indy Power Rankings in 2015 gets in yet again after another 4-0 weekend for the Dragon Gate Open the Brave Gate and Open the Owarai Gate Champion. 2015 has been his oyster thus far and this past weekend was no different. He teamed with Masato Yoshino at Dragon Gate on 4/23 to beat Jimmyz (Genki Horiguchi H.A.Gee.Mee!! and Jimmy Susumu), then teamed with Masato Yoshino and Shachihoko BOY on 4/24 to beat Mad Blankey (YAMATO, CIMA and Gamma), then teamed with Masato Yoshino on 4/25 to beat Mad Blankey (Naruki Doi and Gamma), and then defeated Mr. Quu Quu Naoki Tanizaki Toyonaka Dolphin on 4/26 to go 4-0 for the week. He’s just been absolutely unstoppable this year.

#8 Dragon Kid-Another Dragon Gate talent enjoys a 4-0 weekend and gets into the Top 10 because of it. This fantastic high flyer defeated Jimmy Kagetora at Dragon Gate on 4/23, then teamed with BxB Hulk and Kzy on 4/25 to beat Jimmyz (Genki Horiguchi H.A.Gee.Mee!!, Jimmy Susumu and Ryo “Jimmy” Saito), then teamed with BxB Hulk and Kzy on 4/25 to beat Jimmyz (Genki Horiguchi H.A.Gee.Mee!!, Jimmy Susumu and Ryo “Jimmy” Saito), then teamed with BxB Hulk, Masaaki Mochizuki and Big R Shimizu on 4/26 to defeat Cyber Kong, Don Fujii, Mondai Ryu and Punch Tominaga. Small but sizzling…you can expect to see more of him if he continues this type of run.

#9 Lince Dorado (@Purfect10LD)-Florida produces yet another name in the Top 10 this week as Lince defeated Wayne VanDyke at I Believe in Wrestling on 4/25, then defeated Jester Yorick the same day, then teamed with Chasyn Rance & Mini Lince to defeat Maxwell Chicago, Wayne VanDyke & Josh Hess; then teamed with Santana Garrett & Rhett Giddins to beat Aaron Epic, Josh Hess & Ace Andrews to go 4-0 for the week. Call him a cat or call him one hell of a masked wrestler, but what you have to agree upon is that he is successful. That being said, this is his first ranking in 2015, but it likely won’t be his last.

#10 Mayu Iwatani-We get our second female talent in the Top 10 as 1/3rd of the Artist of Stardom Champions won the Stardom Cinderella tournament on 4/23 when she defeated Thunder Rosa in the first round, then defeated Star Fire in the quarterfinals, then defeated Io Shirai in the semifinals and then beat Koguma in the final to go 4-0 for the week. It’s the first-ever ranking for Iwatani who is obviously on a hot streak right now. If she can continue to churn out victories, a #10 ranking is just the tip of the iceberg.

People’s Champ. Zachary Wentz (@zachary_wentz)-This Rockstar Pro talent came out of left field to win the online voting competition with 111 votes after he defeated Jake Omen, Dale Patricks, Sid Fabulous, Clayton Jackson, Kyle Maverick, Pompano Joe, & Levi Connors in an 8-man scramble at Rockstar Pro on 4/22. We hope to see more of him in the near future!

Tag Team Top 5 for the Week of April 27th, 2015

#1 TMDK (Mikey Nicholls & Shane Haste)-This wasn’t even close this week. “The Mighty Don’t Kneel” proved their worth once again as they teamed with Chris Hero & Colt Cabana on 4/20 to defeat Cho Kibou-Gun (Hajime Ohara, Kenou & Mitsuhiro Kitamiya) & Super Crazy, then defeated Daisuke Sekimoto & Kazuki Hashimoto on 4/23, then defeated Naomichi Marufuji & Katsuhiko Nakajima on 4/25, and then defeated Minoru Suzuki & Takashi Iizuka to go 4-0 for the week. It was a clean sweep of NOAH for the former GHC Tag Team Champions. Despite all their success, this is their first #1 ranking. With the way they dominated this past week, it likely won’t be their last time at the top.

#2 Killer Elite Squad (Davey Boy Smith Jr. & Lance Archer)-The NWA World Tag Team Champions and GHC Tag Team Champions continued their reign of terror in Japan last week as they defeated Brian Breaker & Shelton Benjamin at NOAH on 4/20, then teamed with Shelton “X” Benjamin, Brian Breaker & Taichi on 4/23 to defeat Chris Hero, Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana, Zack Sabre Jr., Jack Gamble & Jon Webb, and then defeated Super Crazy & Mitsuhiro Kitamiya on 4/25 to go 3-0 for the week. KES have been fantastic in 2015, but it’s been a while since they reached the #1 spot. With NOAH running multiple shows with KES on them, perhaps that will all change in the very near future.

#3 Yankee Two Kenju (Isami Kodaka & Yuko Miyamoto)-Japan obviously had a HUGE influence on the Tag Team Top 5 this week and you can look no further than the top three spots for proof of that fact. Despite getting no fan votes, this team did go 4-0 on the week as they teamed with Kankuro Hoshino at BJW on 4/20 to defeat B Faultless Junky’s (Jaki Numazawa, Masashi Takeda & Takumi Tsukamoto), then teamed with Masashi Takeda on 4/24 at BJW to defeat Abdullah Kobayashi, Kankuro Hoshino & Ryuji Ito, then defeated Heisei Gokudo Combi (Kankuro Hoshino & Masato Inaba) on 4/25, and then defeated Ryuji Ito & Abdullah Kobayashi on 4/26. Fantastic week for this team who is absolutely tearing it up at Big Japan right now.

#4 UK Hooligans (Roy & Zak Knight)-It’s been a while since we saw this tag team crack the Tag Team Top 5 but a 3-0 weekend made it impossible to ignore their accomplishments over the last week. The RDW Tag Team Champions and ECTA Tag Team Champions defeated DNA (Dean Allmark & Robbie Dynamite) at PCW on 4/24, then defeated So Scandelous (Ryan Smile & Damian Dunne) on 4/25, and then finished off the week when they teamed with Lionheart, Dave Rayne and Dave Mastiff the same night to defeat Jeff Jarrett, Chris Masters, Bubblegum & Team Single (Rampage Brown & T-Bone). They were the only team outside of Japan to make the Top 5 this week.

#5 Dangan Yankees (Masato Tanaka & Takashi Sugiura)-Chalk up the 4th team out of 5 in the Tag Team Top 5 from Japan this week. With a 3-0 record on the week, they could have easily been #1 on any other week, but this week was STACKED with teams who had flawless weeks. The NWA Intercontinental Tag Team Champions defeated Maybach #2 & Maybach Taniguchi at NOAH on 4/20, then teamed with Daisuke Harada on 4/25 to defeat MAYBACH Taniguchi, Ken-o and Hajime Ohara, and then finished off the weekend when they defeated Naomichi Marufuji & Katsuhiko Nakajima on 4/26. This team, much like several others, has been quietly toiling away with win after win in Japan. What’s next for the Dangan Yankees?

People’s Champs. Tyler Jackson (@JacksonNow18) & Nathan Gust (@Raging258)-It was a dominant effort for the NEW UPW Tag Team Champions as they won the online voting competition with 121 votes which was almost twice as much as the second place team. With their first time being mentioned in the Tag Team rankings and a ton of fan support to boot, look for more from them in the very near future.
