And now, here we go with the Top 10 independent stars of the world as well as the top five tag teams of the world this week on the Indy Power Rankings on The Barbwire Blog; where we rank the best professional wrestlers from the Atlantic to the Pacific, from Canada to Mexico, from Europe to Japan. We’ll count down the 10 most popular wrestlers as well as the 5 most popular tag teams in the world this week, hot off the votes from the online poll as well as the votes from independent wrestling writers for the week ending July 6, 2015. Now, on with the countdown!
Indy Power Rankings for the Week of July 6th, 2015
#1 Caleb Konley (@CalebKonley)-Who’s #1? Caleb Konley is! Flashback to 2013 when Caleb Konley received a #1 ranking and let it go to his head in one of the greatest YouTube videos of all time. Here we are again as the former PWX Heavyweight Champion is now the FIP World Champion after beating Rich Swann for the title over the weekend. It was a close battle among the official voters, but Konley came out on top with his first #1 ranking in singles since 2013. You can go check out that awesome video from 2013 here: http://youtu.be/LG4CKRW8wWc
#2 Jason Peter Rose-Jason Peter Rose came literally out of nowhere to get himself the #2 ranking this week after he won the Freedom Cup at NWA Mid-South on 7/4. He defeated EMT 1 in the quarterfinals, Greg Anthony in the semi-finals, and Van “The Man” Horn in the finals to go 3-0 for the week and to get his first official ranking. He had some support at the #1 spot, but it didn’t quite pan out this week due mostly to the official voters’ unfamiliarity with him. If he can keep this win streak going, expect to see him again in the Indy Power Rankings Top 10.
#3 Akira Tozawa (@tozawaakira)-The current #2 in the 2015 IPR 100 Mid-Year Update gets yet another ranking this week after going 5-0 at Dragon Gate. While he lacked the singles success that could have propelled him into the #1 spot, he did have more victories than anyone else this week. The Open the Brave Gate and Open the Owarai Gate Champion; teamed with Masato Yoshino and Shingo Takagi at Dragon Gate on 6/30 to defeat YAMATO, K-ness and Mondai Ryu, then teamed with BxB Hulk & Shingo Takagi on 7/2 to defeat T-Hawk, Eita and Big R Shimizu, then teamed with Shingo Takagi on 7/4 to defeat Jimmyz ( Ryo “Jimmy” Saito and Mr. Quu Quu Naoki Tanizaki Toyonaka Dolphin), then teamed with Masato Yoshino and Ricochet on 7/5 to defeat Masaaki Mochizuki, Dragon Kid and Big R Shimizu, and then teamed with Masato Yoshino on 7/5 to defeat Genki Horiguchi H.A.Gee.Mee!! and Jimmy Kanda. With 18 straight victories, Tozawa is on a TEAR again.
#4 Matt Sydal (@findevan)-Hard to believe this is his first official ranking, but his return to Dragon Gate in Japan has been a very successful one already as he teamed with Gamma at Dragon Gate on 6/30 to defeat Jimmyz (Jimmy Susumu and Ryo “Jimmy” Saito), then teamed with CIMA & Ricochet on 7/2 to defeat YAMATO, Naruki Doi and Masato Yoshino, then teamed with CIMA on 7/4 to defeat Millennials (T-Hawk and Yosuke (loves) Santa Maria) and then teamed with Gamma on 7/5 to defeat Millennials (T-Hawk and Yosuke (loves) Santa Maria) to go 4-0 for the week. Is home sweet home for Matt Sydal? Time will tell if he can keep this run going.
#5 Anderson Tyson Moore-A familiar name returns to the Top 10 again this week after being ranked last week AND in the IPR 100 Mid-Year Update for this year. Anderson Tyson Moore once again dominated Canada as the CWE Champion defeated Jacob Creed on 7/1 to retain the title and then was the sole survivor tagging with Danny Duggan, Kevy Chevy, and Alexander Prime to defeat Chase Owens, Travis Cole, Jacob Creed, and Wildman Firpo the same night to go 2-0 for the week. With 6 wins over the last 2 weeks, he is absolutely ON FIRE recently. Can his hot streak continue?
#6 Shingo Takagi-Dragon Gate produces their third entrant into the Top 10 this week as Shingo makes his presence known with a big week in Japan. He teamed with Masato Yoshino, Akira Tozawa at Dragon Gate on 6/30 to defeat YAMATO, K-ness and Mondai Ryu, then teamed with BxB Hulk & Akira Tozawa on 7/2 to defeat T-Hawk, Eita and Big R Shimizu, then teamed with Akira Tozawa on 7/4 to defeat Jimmyz (Ryo “Jimmy” Saito and Mr. Quu Quu Naoki Tanizaki Toyonaka Dolphin) and then defeated Mondai Ryu on 7/5 to go 4-0 for the week. Shingo has won an impressive 13 straight matches and looks to continue his dominance of Dragon Gate going forward.
#7 Eric Cairnie (@EZEEricCairnie)-It was a good week for “EZE” in Canada as he went (to our knowledge as Sunday results weren’t available at press time) 5-1 on the week. The PWA Ontario Champion defeated Mr. Atlantis on 7/1 to retain the title, then defeated Venom and Brandon Hynes the same day to retain the title, then lost to Super Kamikaze by count-out but retained the title, then defeated Tyler Tirva, Ryan Swift & Super Kamikaze in a fatal four way the same day to retain the title, then defeated Ryan Swift on 7/3 to retain the title, and then defeated Ryan Swift on 7/4 to retain the title again. It was simply an amazing week for him in the Great White North.
#8 Chris Hero (@thechrishero)-Chris Hero returns to the Top 10 this week with a victory at FIP as he defeated Martin Stone and Gary Jay in a triple threat match on 7/3. Not satisfied with the #99 spot in the IPR 100, Hero began his mission to move up over the weekend and came out with a big win. There’s no doubt that it’s a long half-year ahead and Hero will likely need to capture some gold to stick around in the Top 100, but if anyone can do it, he can.
#9 Timmy Lou Retton (@TimmyLouRetton)-Professional wrestling’s ONLY male gymnast is working his way up to the top of the podium as he scores his very first official ranking in the Top 10. The man that flips for money continues to impress as he won the GOUGE Heavyweight Title vs. Jimmy Jack Funk Jr. on 7/4. He says “born to be a champion simple as that.” Who can argue with him right now? The youngster is shining in North Carolina and looks to continue that trend.
#10 Diablo-SWITZERLAND gets Diablo into the Top 10 this week after he defeated Bad Bones John Klinger, Karsten Beck, and Toby Blunt in a four way match on 7/4 to retain the SWE King of Switzerland Title. The Indy Power Rankings consistently prove to be truly international as you get names from all over the world in the Top 10 and clearly this week was no different. Diablo JUST squeaks in on the fan vote this week as he was tied with Jack Viper in the official votes.
Co-People’s Champ. Beer City Bruiser (@bcbwinchester)-After a solid 3-1 weekend he comes out with a tie in the online voting to secure a “Co-People’s Champ” award as he ties Ezekiel Jackson in the online voting competition this week.
Co-People’s Champ. Ezekiel Jackson (@physzeke)-The former WWE superstar grabs another accolade this week as he is the “Co-People’s Champ” having tied Beer City Bruiser in the online voting after picking up a DQ win over Drake Destroyer in Switzerland on 7/4.
Honorable Mention. Jack Viper-The NEW Snakepit Adelaide Open Champion defeated King John E Radic in Australia on 7/3 to win the title; then defeated Bryan Lawson on 7/5 to retain the title to go 2-0 for the week.

Tag Team Top 5 for the Week of July 6th, 2015
#1 Akira Tozawa & Masato Yoshino-Dragon Gate and Monster Express reign supreme in the Tag Team Top 5 as they have done for much of 2015. They teamed with Shingo Takagi at Dragon Gate on 6/30 to defeat YAMATO, K-ness and Mondai Ryu, then teamed with Ricochet on 7/5 to defeat Masaaki Mochizuki, Dragon Kid and Big R Shimizu, and then defeated Genki Horiguchi H.A.Gee.Mee!! and Jimmy Kanda the same day to go 3-0 for the week. With a ridiculous 25 straight wins as a team, this team was the clear cut #1 this week as they continue to climb the Tag Team Top 50.
#2 Akira Tozawa & Shingo Takagi-The other top contender for the #1 spot this week was the other Monster Express duo which also featured Akira Tozawa. It can’t be understated how dominant Monster Express was this year as they teamed with Masato Yoshino at Dragon Gate on 6/30 to defeat YAMATO, K-ness and Mondai Ryu, then teamed with BxB Hulk on 7/2 to defeat T-Hawk, Eita and Big R Shimizu, and then defeated Ryo “Jimmy” Saito and Mr. Quu Quu Naoki Tanizaki Toyonaka Dolphin on 7/4 to go 3-0 for the week. This particular tandem has won 9 straight matches together.
(EDITOR’S NOTE: Considering the fact that Akira Tozawa, Shingo Takagi and Masato Yoshino compete under the Monster Express name, this site will only acknowledge them as a stable from here on out.)
#3 CIMA & Matt Sydal-Well, well, well…Dragon Gate owns the top 3 spots this week as CIMA & Matt Sydal grab their first ranking together as a team this week. They teamed with Ricochet at Dragon Gate on 7/2 to defeat YAMATO, Naruki Doi and Masato Yoshino and then defeated T-Hawk and Yosuke (loves) Santa Maria to go 2-0 for the week. What a week for Dragon Gate in the Tag Team Top 5 as they get 3 teams in AND in the Indy Power Rankings as they got 3 singles wrestlers into the Top 10.
#4 Los Independientes (Kraneo, Olimpico, & Ripper)-This trio from Mexico gets their first ranking as a team as they defeated Los Reyes de la Atlantida (Atlantis, Delta & Guerrero Maya Jr.) at CMLL on 6/29 and then defeated El Fuego, Stuka Jr. and Titán on 6/30 to go 2-0 for the week. So with that being said, the Top 4 teams in the Tag Team Top 5 come from countries outside the United States, proving yet again that the Indy Power Rankings and the Tag Team Top 5 are truly international.
#5 Insane Evil (Chase McCoy & Weedman)-The NEW BCW Tag Team Champions get their first ranking as a team and it was a CLOSE call as they just barely beat out Team IOU for the #5 spot this week. They defeated Peter Schwanz & Jarrod Jaxx on 7/2 to retain the titles and then defeated The Perfect 10s on 7/4 to retain the titles to go 2-0 for the week. This tag team may not get some of the hype of some of the other teams on the list but they had as good of a week as anyone. Look out for them as 2015 rolls on.
People’s Champs. Team IOU (Kerry Awful & Nick Iggy @TeamIOU)-Team IOU return to their spots atop the online voting competition once again this year as the PGP Tag Team Champions finished off the Death Dealers at SWF on 7/4 to win their best of 5 series, 3 to 2. IOU is really starting to get on a roll this year. Expect them to finish the second half of the year strong!
